Fall is a great time to visit the beautiful and historic city of Lisbon, Portugal. Largest city in Portugal, Lisbon is the capital city and is situated on the river Tagus. Home to around 550,000 residents, Lisbon is the 11th most populous urban areas in Europe today and is located further west than any other capital city. A city of global importance, it is well known not just for its finance and commerce by also its arts and a still growing tourism sect as well.
Although the area is known to have been settled for thousands of years, as a city, Lisbon is still over 1,000 years old and this history is quite apparent in its architecture which ranks as some of the most popular reasons to visit. From its Romanesque cathedrals to its Moorish roots in the oldest Alfama Quarter, there is plenty of history just in the buildings of the city which remain today.
Known as a city of contrasts, the ancient architecture of the city is just one way with which to get to know this culture. As the city grows, it continues to add new and exciting architecture wonders as well making its new structures as unique and important as well.
