While TSA has been working to reduce lines by offering programs to help, the fact remains that one of the biggest complaints in regard to air travel is the amount of time required to check in and board a flight especially when traveling internationally. In some areas and during certain times of the year, travelers are advised to arrive at the airport over 2 hours early to ensure that they do not miss their flight.
Since 9-11, TSA has implemented a number of programs designed to help ensure safety and still allow those traveling to check in more quickly and avoid long lines and delays. Programs such as TSA Pre and the trusted traveler programs are both there to help frequent travelers make it through the line faster. These programs allow travelers who are known to be trusted the opportunity to skip certain aspects of check in that others have to adhere to including keeping shoes on and leaving laptops in bags when going through security. These are just one way to expedite your trip to the airport. Other ways to speed up your trip to the airport may include:
Packing right – Avoid packing items which may cause concern, pack items you will need such as boarding passes and credit cards on top in your carry on, follow the 3-1-1 rule and be prepared to remove your laptop upon arrival to speed up your trip.
Check in online – The airlines have tried to make travel as convenient as possible including by offering online check in. This is especially handy when you are not checking any bags.
Have someone take you to the airport – Parking can be pricy and take a fair amount of time. Save time by having your friends help you out and let them drop you off. If this in not an option, at least be aware of the parking situation to save time.
Weigh your bags at home – Be sure you follow weight and size restrictions with all your bags to avoid having to trade items from one bag to another to stay within the limits.
